Wilderness Survival Gear a Prerequisite to a Great Outdoor Adventure

Many people are avid outdoor fanatic. If you belong to this type of people then you are aware of the thrill and excitement of wilderness trekking. Whether you participate in hiking, boating, camping, fishing, hunting, or some other activity, though, you need to make sure you bring the right equipment along. Going in the wilderness without wilderness survival gear may turn out to be more of a forgettable adventure than a fun adventure.

No matter what activity you are engaged in, there are a few important tools which you should not overlook. Firstly, you should not forget to bring a quality first aid kit with you. You never know what injuries you or a companion could sustain miles away from medical assistance. So include in your baggage bandages, antiseptics, braces and other important first aid materials. Secondly, bringing a quality knife in your wilderness adventure is a priority. A knife can serve several key purposes. Among other things, it can cut firewood, remove clothing from an injury, and help clear a path through the woods. For wilderness survival gear, one good option is a knife and hatchet combo. These tools are very handy, with the knife fitting into the hatchet's handle, and can be easily holstered to your gear. Given these two items, you can respond better to precarious situations along the way.

Aside from these two necessities, other vital wilderness survival gear includes signaling devices, like flares and markers, that can help rescuers find you should you need help. A quality compass, by brands like Brunton and BCB, proves to be an indispensable tool when you are lost and need a guide for an alternate direction. Finally, for long-term outings, extra food and water rations are a must have. This includes water purification tools to ascertain potable water in the wilderness.

Ultimately, the best way to ensure you have the wilderness survival gear necessary to stay safe when enjoying the outdoors is to create a survival kit. You have the option to buy the items individually or take as one packaged set. Just be sure that the kit is complete with all the necessary components for your journey. The best wilderness survival gear kits will have items to keep you warm, healthy, and well-fed while signaling for help to arrive.

If you are an avid outdoor fanatic and you enjoy the wilderness, you have to prepare for the worst. Always bring the wilderness survival gear from Thompson Outdoor Supply. Learn more about the survival products we carry at ThompsonOutdoors.com.

Cold outdoor gig - Dec. 19th - What do we need to do for the instruments & equipment?

My band is playing at the Dallas Convention Center on an outdoor stage. Is there anything we can do / need to do to protect the guitars, drums, bass, etc? What about the pro audio gear? I know we'll have to let them 'normalize' to the temperature before we tune and play... Are there any dangers?

Answer
well as long as the temperature change isn't to drastic as in warm to cold too fast and vice versa your usually alright with your instruments, and it's gonna be mountain air dry if it's not snowing, god forbid, so investing in some in case humidifiers wouldn't be a bad idea, keep everything in the case till the last minute and right back in when your done, as far as the audio gear goes it likes the cold and dry, it just don't like snow and water,

What Do You Need To Consider Before Getting Harleys For Sale

March 10th, 2010 bear No comments

When you get the chance to choose your Harley Davidson, make sure you carefully consider your real needs and thus make a good purchase. Lots of people are attracted by Harleys for sale because they seem like a great deal, not to mention that they look great. Instead of rushing into such a decision, why not look at practicality first and foremost. It is important for you to enjoy the experience from one end to the other. Do not get a bike just to keep it in the garage; buy the perfect bike you have always dreamed of.

Knowing your riding style well will help you choose between the various Harleys for sales. There is a huge diversity of models, but it is essential to decide whether you want a sports bike, a custom bike or a cruiser. The whole riding experience depends on this. If you just want to ride through town, a sports bike sounds like a good idea, but this may be uncomfortable for long distance rides. A cruiser is always a better deal for longer road trips.

Some Harleys for sale appeal to the customer by their great price. And people are often tempted to overestimate their riding capacity. The size and the power of the engine are essential for a good biking experience, not to mention the safety issues that appear when using a motorcycle that you cannot handle very well. Therefore, if you have come across some ads with Harleys for sale in your local area, it's time to go and see them in person, and take each for a demo ride.

Many people prefer to choose second hand Harleys for sale just because working with dealerships is a daunting task sometimes. The problem in such cases is that dealers are tempted to advise for those bikes that have the highest commissions for them. While this is understandable from their point of view and considering that they make a living out of such commissions, the customer may be convinced into a deal that is not advantageous for his/her individual conditions.

When you consider buying a bike in the category of Harleys for sale on the second hand market, do not overlook the importance of checking for the technical details. Depending on the model, some bikes are more prone to wearing off than others. This varies according to the usage mode and the kind of maintenance that the bike has received. Read some buying tips so as to be prepared with the kind of questions that you need to ask when shopping for the right bike.

Can I Raise the suspension on a Harley-Davidson touring bike?

I know, I know ... most people want to lower their H-D, but I'd like to add more suspension travel so the bike handles bumps better, and to get those floorboards up off the pavement. I didn't see anything at the H-D website. Besides buying a Buell (probably the smart move), what can I do to jack up my Road Glide?

Answer
Those must be some wicked bumps where you ride!I have an Electraglide and i've never drug the floorboards on the pavement. It would take longer shocks and fork tubes to raise it higher.Try Progressive suspension for the shocks. The fork tubes can be gotten from any aftermarket supplier like JP Cycles. The fork travel isn't going to be any different because of longer tubes. It will just add ground clearance. The shocks will add travel though.

Go For The Best When It Comes To Bike Lighting

March 10th, 2010 bear No comments

There are several reasons why you must give bike lights your undivided attention. They save your skin by keeping you visible to those whose lights are shining in your eyes or those who are behind you. In terms of look, they add a dash of spice to what may otherwise be a nondescript looking machine. Lastly, if the lights are fancy enough, they hike up your bike's resale value.

You need not worry about the top-end lights available in the market. They are meant for rugged use and have a long life. What you need to ensure is that they give your bike a smart look. Here are five lights that you can consider mounting on your bike:

1. Arlen Ness Ness-Tech Eyeball Billet Headlight: You may know the Nesses more for their skill with a grinder rather than with wire snips. But the company's stylish accessory line up has some eye-popping lighting. The Eyeball Billet Headlight is a chrome-plated 4.5-inch unit that looks like the human eye. It is a single-beam lamp with a 55-watt HZ3 bulb and lens.

2. Baron Custom Accessories Ultimate Light Bar: Baron's line of aftermarket accessories has a series of lighting solutions that is truly tempting. The latest light in their catalogue is the Ultimate Light Bar. You can install it onto your stock front turn signal mount. It has chromed billet-driving lights and indicator lights and comes with mounting hardware and wiring. The mount system lets you adjust the forward light projection angle.

3. Harley-Davidson Genuine Accessories Chrome Auxiliary Lighting Kit: The Auxiliary Lighting Kit is one of the very popular Harley-Davidson Genuine Accessories. It has chrome lamp housings and chrome mounting brackets to match the contour of the triple tree and highlight the headlamp. You'll get the necessary wiring, switch and hardware for installation inside the kit. The bulbs have to be brought separately.

4. Headwinds Super Brite H4 Lamp: Headwinds has a wide range of lights, bulbs, housings and customized lights. The Super Brite Lamp is their latest product and quite eye catching. This light is probably the brightest that you can legally put on your bike. The xenon gas bulb produces 50 percent more light, decreases glare, and has clear glass lens that increase the whiteness and amount of light that hits the road. The light is interchangeable with existing SAE lamps found on Harley-Davidsons and some metric cruisers.

5. Cobra USA Steel Light bars: This is yet another top-of-the-line brand that offers spotlights, light bars and lighting details for almost every bike. The light bars can easily be fastened to the stock triple clamps. What's more they look great too.
